Attending a meeting of the Counseling and Therapy Practice Board

Remember that the purpose of the Board is to protect the public, and regulate the professional practice of counselors.  It is their duty to make sure that people do not practice counseling who are not properly prepared and meet the State requirements.  The burden is upon the applicant to show that the standards have been met.

It is recommended that you arrive early on the day your case is on the agenda.  Dress professionally, and bring copies of all your documents just in case they are needed.  You will be asked to place your name on a sign in sheet upon entering the Board room.  There are usually agendas and other relevant material on the table where the sign in sheet is located.  Present a cheerful and cooperative demeanor to the Board.  Smile, make eye contact, present your case and thank them for their consideration.  Be sure you are clear about what further information they may require from you, and how best to get it to them.
