Richard J. Poppy MA, LISAC Richard Poppy graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelors degree in Psychology, Seattle University with a Master in Clinical Psychology and Edmonds Community College, Edmonds Washington, with a Certificate in Addiction Studies. Richard is a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of Arizona. Richard has presented throughout the state of Arizona; discussing addiction treatment, treatment for people with co-occurring disorders, and clinical supervision for addiction counselors. Mr. Poppy has been involved in community mental health and substance abuse treatment for the past 13 years. He is currently employed at La Frontera Center Inc, as the Clinic Supervisor of the Hope Center, an outpatient opioid treatment clinic. Mr. Poppy oversees La Frontera’s involvement in the MCAS (Mothers, children, Addiction Services) program, a CPSA network collaborative IOP treatment program, for pregnant and post-partum women. Richard was the past program supervisor of the ADMIRE Plus program, an IOP program for people with co-occurring disorders.
Mr. Poppy’s professional involvements included being a member of the Arizona State Integrated Treatment Panel. Mr. Poppy currently serves as the Co-chairman for the Arizona State Opioid Treatment Coalition, Southern Arizona Recovery Task Force member, Vice-president of the Therapeutic Practitioners Alliance of Arizona, and the past Conference chair for “Opioid Treatment in the 21st Century: From Barriers to Breakthrough.

Workshop Description Clinical Supervision seeks to assist counselors and other direct service personnel in their development of clinical skills. This workshop focuses on the teaching and mentoring aspects of clinical supervision in addiction treatment settings. The training has been found to be useful for clinical supervisors in other related fields. The Ultimate effectiveness of clinical supervisors is often measured by how well the counselors they supervise perform their clinical duties. The goal of this workshop is to provide participants an opportunity to increase their understanding, comfort and skill level in assessing and giving feedback regarding clinical skills and duties to the counselors they supervise. This workshop is designed for participants to come away with specific skills that are useful for their work as clinical supervisors. This course is designed for both experienced and relatively new supervisors. Learning Objectives:
This training will be taking place over a three day period, each afternoon Wednesday August 8-Friday August 10. Participants may attend any or all of the sessions. Those beginning supervision are required to have a minimum of nine hours training in supervision prior to beginning the supervisory relationship. |
